Our Ministries

Food Bank Ministry

“You give them something to eat,” Jesus told his disciples. Following the command of Jesus to feed the hungry, Hermitage Church is a partner with the Blue Ridge Area Food Bank.  Hermitage members make monthly contributions to the Food Bank.  During the Christmas season, the congregation collects packaged and canned food items. These items are distributed to those in need by local Augusta County food pantries.  Our last collection yielded 179 lbs of food!

Since ancient times, women have been called on for wise guidance, gentle support, and compassionate service. The Hermitage Women of the Church are honored to continue this vital tradition of nurturing both within and outside the church.  To help in meeting this call, the WOC believe we are guided by the Holy Spirit to do God's work.

As a group, Women of the Church pertains to women of any age who would like to serve the Lord whether it be in terms of time, financial support and or love for others.  Our services are primarily funded through one or two annual yard sales.  As a result we have been able to support both internal and external opportunities.

External:  The Blue Ridge Area Food Bank, The Valley Mission, Presbyterian Children's Home of the Highlands, Disciples' Kitchen and WARM project for the homeless to name a few.

Internal:  Purchased several window air conditioners, revamped one of the women's rest rooms, provided patio furniture, and had additional electric sockets installed in the lower fellowship hall.

Through love for others, the WOC are there to provide support for families during a time of distress, especially funerals. The ladies jump in and provide a meal for the family and friends within a calm and loving setting.   The extension of this love has been well received.  The WOC also assists congregants who may be going through difficult times and need financial aid.

We believe in caring for each other’s spiritual needs through maintaining contact with one another and also through monthly group meetings.

Our plan for the future is to continue to seek ways to show compassion and love as we hopefully grow in numbers.

In I Corinthians 12:4, we read: There are different kinds of gifts, but the same Spirit distributes them.

We are a congregation in which there are wide and varied gifts of the Spirit. We work together and all gifts are used to serve God. We value the gifts for ministry that you bring. All gifts of the Spirit are important. In the words of the hymn, There Is a Balm in Gilead:

If you cannot preach like Peter,
if you cannot pray like Paul,
you can tell the love of Jesus,
who died to save us all.
